Self-reflection is the first step to meditate

Where can we find lasting happiness? How can we change our mind? Start meditation with looking inside your mind.

Meditation is fast becoming a daily practice for relief from the stresses of our ever increasingly stressful lives. Artificial Intelligence has so impacted the pace and input of information into our everyday lifestyle, that people are finding it hard to disconnect from world affairs, to engage in much needed relaxation of the mind and body.

A Google search of “what people want from life” lists the following desires: Happiness, freedom, peace, joy, balance, fulfillment, confidence, stability and meaning. “Happiness” appeared at the top of most of the lists of wants. Happiness can mean a lot of things to many different people, but the question for all is “where can we find lasting happiness.”  The external world offers us many opportunities for happiness, but they are all are fleeting. A bouquet of beautiful flowers will fade after a few days; a good meal lasts for a few hours, a vacation comes and soon goes, so where can we find happiness that lasts?

Happiness is a state of mind, as is freedom, peace, joy, balance, fulfillment, confidence, stability and meaning. None of these desires are tangible and certainly cannot be purchased online! If you are lacking any of these things, it is because you do not have them in your mind. How do you reach these ideals? Well, you need to change your mind from a sense of lack to abundance.

So the next question is: how you do change your mind? Here is where we introduce the practice of meditation.

WHAT IS MEDITATION:

Most people have preconceived ideas about what meditation is. Before meditation became more understood it was considered something only “spiritually minded” people did. These people were considered strange, and meditation was thought to be too complicated for just anyone to practice.  People are a lot more open minded to differences in these more modern times, and now meditation is one of fastest growing trends around the globe!

There are many different forms of meditation and it can be mind boggling to search all the sites offering so many options. However, while some forms of meditation can offer methods for relaxation and stress relief, oftentimes these benefits fade when one returns to their normal stressful life.

To obtain permanent stress relief, your chosen method of meditation should aim you towards:

  1. Looking inside your mind and getting to know who you really are deep down. Your mind drives everything you do in life, and the answer is to find out why you do what you do. This form of self reflection reveals a pathway to make changes which will improve your overall outlook on life, and will add value and meaning where you couldn’t see them before.
  2. Learning to understand why you are the way you are. You can then put into practice the insights you have gained for permanent change. Long standing detrimental habits can be understood and eliminated, and you will awaken to your true potential.

Meditation through self-reflection does not require any special postures, breathing techniques, or any special abilities. However, guidance from a teacher will keep you on the pathway to a fast-track result, and ensure that you stay headed in the right direction. EVERYONE can benefit from meditation, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you will arrive at your destination.
